Just want to say that I approve! I hope you enjoy the series!

It took me several hours to decide whether to do this as a blog or an ongoing forum thread. I'm still trying to figure out whether I want to find a SoIaF board and post my reflections there as well.

Good choice buddy. It's a great series. If you're still into it at the end I can pretty much gaurantee you be thinking "OMG! OMG! What happens next!?"

I had had the first book for years and always put off reading it. Finally around this past Christmas I got the series on my Kindle and read through, mainly because I knew the tv show was coming. I did the same thing of keeping a running naritive of my read through over on Westeros.org which is probably the biggest ASoIaF community.

Isgrimner, thanks for the site. I noticed that Westeros has subforums just for those reading each book for the first time; I thought that was a great idea. Although I'm kinda puzzled as to why there is no such first-read forum for book four.

Huh that is weird. There used to be a suboforum just for book 4 A Feast For Crows. But thatt area for first time readers looks fairly new to me so maybe the book 4 area will be up shortly.

The announcement of the first-time reader area is dated Apr. 9th this year. The Feast for Crows subforum might have been for when that book was newer, and it seemed logical to have a section for the latest installment. There's already a section in the main area for book 5.

Yay, my order from Amazon came today! Now all I have to do is finish the last 100 pages or so of The Fires of Heaven... when I'm not working, and there isn't an NHL playoff game on.
