Book 8 Chapters 11-14

In this entry in my reading of The Path of Daggers, there's mystery and plotting amongst the Shaido, the Forsaken, Cadsuane, and the Asha'man, and Rand prepares for the Seanchan invasion.   Chapter 11: Questions and an Oath   Summary   Sevanna and the Shaido Wise Ones question a captured Seanchan soldier, torturing him to death. The Shaido have been stranded in Ghealdan for ten days, and the Wise Ones are becoming increasingly discontent with Sevanna, her grip on them since Desaine loosen

In today's reading of The Path of Daggers, we head to Ghealdan, where Perrin and his army are attempting to treat with a queen surrounded by Whitecloaks, Dragonsworn, and most recently, the Seanchan.   Chapter 7: A Goatpen   Summary   Perrin’s forces overlook the town of Bethal, where the Queen of Ghealdan, Alliandre, is staying. Dragonsworn swarm the country, although they’ve left Whitecloak territory behind. There are rumors of Amador falling. Perrin attempts to remain undercover, which

Today in my read-through of The Path of Daggers, we return to Elayne, Nynaeve, and friends as they leave Ebou Dar for the safety of the Kin farm, hoping to use the Bowl and fix the weather at last.   Chapter 1: To Keep the Bargain   Summary   A wind passes the island of Tremalking, populated by the Amayar, who have a prophecy concerning the giant statue. The wind proceeds to the palace in Ebou Dar, where everybody is preparing to leave. They encounter Teslyn in the halls, who refuses to be

Book 8 Prologue

Sorry for the delay and the briefness of this post, I decided to take a little break between ACoS and starting TPoD, and I'm considering rethinking my blogging patterns, and whether I should start posting on a personal website too, or something like that. Anyway, today we start The Path of Daggers, with a (comparatively) short Prologue!   The Path of Daggers   And thus The Path of Daggers begins! I actually sort of like this book’s cover art, at least in comparison to LoC or some of the othe

Book 7 Chapters 28-41

Here's two planned entries in one. We're finishing off A Crown of Swords today! The last fourth of ACoS is definitely action-packed, for the folk in Ebou Dar, and for Rand especially.     Chapter 28: Bread and Cheese   Summary   Mat moves into the Tarasin Palace reluctantly. As soon as he settles in, Tylin starts to harass him discreetly, leaving Thom and Juilin oblivious. He ensures that Elayne and Nynaeve have bodyguards and is dispatched to a tavern opposite the Kin house, assigned to

In today's entry to the read-through of A Crown of Swords, we have a few side-journeys to Rand and pals, as well as intrigue abound with the Forsaken and some newcomers in Amadicia. But most importantly, we get some resolution in the Mat-Supergirls War.   Chapter 18: As the Plow Breaks the Earth   Summary   Rand converses with various clan chiefs in Cairhien, with Merana a warded servant to demonstrate the Aes Sedai’s obsequiousness. They discuss the Shaido, as well as the other fleeing c

Today, we're spending the read-through of ACoS in Ebou Dar, where the Supergirls encounter the Sea Folk and Mat gets into some serious shenanigans.   Chapter 13: The Bowl of the Winds   Summary   The four girls approach a Sea Folk ship in Ebou Dar in a small boat. Elayne and Nynaeve had dreamed with Egwene the previous night, and are now concerned about Nicola and Areina’s blackmailing, as well as Moghedien. They consider allowing Mat to help them because of his ta’veren fortune. Nynaeve

In today's entry in my first read-through of A Crown of Swords, we switch the stage from Rand's company to Egwene and pals on the march northward. Aes Sedai politicking is abound in her chunk of chapters for the novel.   Chapter 8: The Figurehead   Summary   Egwene converses with Sheriam and Siuan in the Amyrlin’s tent, running through reports. Sheriam continues to challenge her authority, pushing for an extended rest for the army, and Romanda and Lelaine suggest a pay reduction for the i

Welcome back to the Wheel of Time read-through. After a short break, we officially get into A Crown of Swords, detailing Perrin and Rand's return to Cairhien.   Chapter 1: High Chasaline   Summary   Perrin is recuperating after the terror of Dumai’s Wells in the ring of wagons with other Two Rivers soldiers. He is perturbed by the nudity of the recently imprisoned Shaido gai’shain, as white robes cannot be found to cloth them with. Perrin notices the fragile allegiances amidst the variou

Book 7 Prologue

In this entry of my first read of The Wheel of Time, I start a whole new book, A Crown of Swords. I'm planning to do a lot of my entries on the weekend from here on out, but I intend to post at least one or two during the week as well. But today, we only have the Prologue, which is huge enough to warrant an entry all to itself.   A Crown of Swords   Welcome back to my first read through The Wheel of Time, starting with a brand new book, A Crown of Swords. Book 6 Chapters 52-56

Another post? So soon? Today we finish up Book 6 of The Wheel of Time, in which there's a seriously awesome battle, a tantalizing epilogue, and my own reflection on an excellent novel I unfortunately spoiled a lot of for myself.   Chapter 52: Weaves of the Power   Summary   While gambling in an inn, Mat mentions the Daughter of the Nine Moons to a man, who nearly chokes. Vanin reports that the girls have vanished once more. Even Thom is clueless as to how. Mat and his soldiers decide to s

Although there's only four chapters in today's read of Lord of Chaos, there's the trap we've all been waiting for happening!   Chapter 48: Leaning on the Knife   Summary   Nynaeve, Elayne, and the others become accustomed to their quarters in Tarasin Palace, with Thom and Juilin residing in the servants’ quarters. Their introduction to Merilille is irritatingly brief, with the two condescendingly sent away so that Vandena and Adeleas could speak with Merilille instead.   Elayne and N

Prepare for a very large update! I really do hope somebody's reading this blog, because this is a hassle to update, ha-ha. This session, we have ascensions and arrivals and adventures all sorts of Aes Sedai annoyingness. That's a lot of A-s.   Chapter 35: In the Hall of the Sitters   Summary   Egwene thinks her the Aes Sedai are joking, refusing to believe an Accepted like her could be raised as Amyrlin. The Sitters explain that she will become Aes Sedai in her ascension to Amyrlin Seat

Here's another entry in my read-through of Lord of Chaos, in which Egwene gets some big news, and trouble builds in Amador.   Chapter 31: Red Wax   Summary       Eamon Valda and his soldiers arrive in Amador from Tar Valon. Valda is irritated that he was recalled, rather than allowed to confront Rand in Tear before he became too strong. Valda considers Niall a weak and inefficient leader. After confirming that Morgase is the Fortress from a drunken Dain Bornhald, Valda receives a messag

Welcome back to another entry in my read through Lord of Chaos. I'm pretty much caught up now, but I do hope I can keep it that way. Today, some big developments in Salidar, but there's still even more to come, I'm sure.   Chapter 26: Connecting Lines   Summary   Rand surveys the gallop of Bashere’s cavalry while wondering where Sulin has been since Shadar Logoth. Upon returning to Caemlyn, he is nearly killed in a Whitecloak ambush, which claims the life of a Maiden. Rand hangs all of th

In another quick entry of my read through Lord of Chaos, Rand has fun in Shadar Logoth and there's Aes Sedai manipulating abound. Things are getting good.   Chapter 21: To Shadar Logoth   Summary   The Ogier agree to accompany Rand to Shadar Logoth. Sulin and her Maidens contest his going alone, and Rand agrees to an escort. Sulin violates ji’e’toh in treating a gai’shain as Far Dareis Mai, and she decides to amend it later. The large escort proceeds to Shadar Logoth, where Lews Therin br

Welcome back to my first read through Lord of Chaos! The pace of posts is gonna be breakneck here, as I need to catch up a little. Here, Rand's preparing for a road trip. About time he got out of Caemlyn and Cairhien.   Chapter 15: A Pile of Sand   Summary   Egwene awakens after her dream with Gawyn with the headache she has been receiving every night since Lanfear’s attack. She falls asleep again, dreaming of Gawyn and then various prophetic things. When her dreams shift to nightmares, s

Last post for tonight, I promise! In this rather large entry of The Wheel of Time readthrough, I have a bunch of chapters I've actually read a while back, but am just blogging on. This is where the book gets a little slow, but thankfully, it picks up around the point I've actually read.   Chapter 8: The Storm Gathers   Summary   Nynaeve, after fruitless searching in tel’aran’rhiod, awakens sensing dark weather. While Elayne leaves to teach her novice class, Nynaeve attempts to speak with

This makes all of the chapter responses I have written so far. Her newest acquisitions originate from beyond the Aiel Waste, one of them a sort of empress. Sammael suspects Graendal’s explaining this somehow s

Here is a bunch of chapters for you, as I already have a few posts written for the blog at Blogger.com. I'll release the remaining posts I have already written so far tonight, and then it's off to catching up to what I've read so far.   Chapter 1: Lion on the Hill   Summary   Rand duels five hired fighters in the palace, and is successfully struck by one. He still struggles to repress Lews Therin. He is quickly irritated by the facetiousness of the Andoran nobles and the bluntness of Davr

Book 6 Prologue

Now we finally start Lord of Chaos. Despite knowing this is around the point the series slows down, I’m excited for this novel because of all the promise in the previous book. The Big-Ass WoT Finale in TFOH seriously shook things up in Randland, and I’m curious to see the fallout. The Fires of Heaven definitely ranks as one of my favorite books so far, the second half easily compensating for the tediousness of the first. Hopefully LoC can compete. And by the way, the American cover art on this o

Review of Books 1-5

Before my read-through of Lord of Chaos officially begins...   I still really wish I could offer my thoughts and reactions while reading the first 5 books, but since it's obviously too late for that, I decided to just offer my general opinion and my experience reading the series so far. This is a rather long post...     The Eye of the World   The Eye of the World introduces the major characters (Rand, Perrin, Mat, Nynaeve, and Egwene) as simple youths in the village of Emond’s Field, who

Introduction

Welcome to an introduction to what I hope a successful blog as I finish reading The Wheel of Time series and offer my thoughts.   So I’m totally new to blogging, but I thought I’d try it out, specifically through one of my absolute favorite topics: fantasy literature. One of my all-time favorite series in said genre is easily Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time, but as I’m sure you all know, it’s a rather large saga, and I’ve been distracted from it quite a bit (such as discovering and immediate
