About this blog

My thoughts of the books as I read through them for the first time

I'm Alive!

Hey all, been a rough couple of months for me.   First, my laptop finally died (was old), and I had a new one ordered and delivered. Got it all set up and was about to start the blogs back when we got word of Hurricane Irene. Unfortunately, I got stuck right in the middle of things and my brand new laptop was ruined. I've since gotten a replacement and all is good now.   Oh, and we were in the process of getting ready to move, which we have successfully done now. So after all that, I think

Chapter 8: The Figurehead   If anything, this chapter title makes it pretty clear exactly what Egwene’s role was “meant” to be. It looks like the Salidar Aes Sedai are well on the way on their travels north. Someone mentioned this in the last blog, but why don’t they just travel? It would save on a hell of a lot of supplies and time. Anyway, Egwene is meeting with Sheriam and Siuan in her study. They are going over some random reports of supplies and such, and trying to figure out what to do a

Chapter 6: Old Fear, and New Fear   Rand leaves with the rest of the group who stayed behind, which leaves Faile and Perrin to finally be able to talk. Faile is still a little uneasy, and it comes out that she was afraid they had come back under Aes Sedai control. I guess they could have compelled them, but I would think you would be able to notice. You would think Rand's reaction towards Colavaere would have been enough to convince her otherwise. Other than that, there isn’t really a weave to

Here's the one I was going to get up yesterday. I figured I should put it up before you all thought I forgot again   I'll have another one up at some point tonight/tomorrow morning hopefully.   Chapter 3: Hill of the Golden Dawn   Rand waits as everyone else prepares to travel, and opens up a gateway for everyone to travel through. We see a little of Rand’s thoughts as the procession goes past, and we see Rand trusting less and less people. This Dashiva guy appears on the verge of madne

I think it was Isgrimner who suggested this, but working in a Word document first really makes this a lot easier. Thanks for the suggestion!     Chapter 1: High Chasaline   We start off with Perrin, post Dumai’s Wells. He is going over some different things in his head as he tries to avoid looking at the death and destruction below. You can just sense the somber mood in the camp as Perrin looks at all the graves (I like how the Aiel are buried standing up facing the sunrise) and remembers t

Demos on A Crown of Swords, prologue

Ahhh great, rookie mistake and I accidentally deleted what I had written so far, which was a good 20 minutes of work. Oh well.     Anyway I wanted to get you guys something tonight, and see if there was any feedback on ways I can do these write ups better. As most of you have probably noticed, my English/grammar is average at best. I tend to write how I talk, and once I get into the mood of remembering what happened in these books and my thoughts on them, everything I was taught seems to go

Demos on Lord of Chaos, chapter 51 - epilogue

“Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt”. Lord have mercy, did that really just happen? My heart can’t take any more of this. I got ten types of jacked up after finishing the book. I don’t know how I’ll begin to describe it all but here goes nothing.     Sorry for keeping you guys waiting. Was a little busy the last couple days and didn’t want to rush this blog at all. It deserved to be a good one.     Chapter 51: The Taking   Luckily I didn’t really take into account w

I really can’t put this book down, as you can probably tell by my second update in one day. Only reason I did stop reading was because I didn’t want to get too far ahead of these write ups. I’ll finish the book tonight but I doubt I’ll get another blog up until tomorrow.       Chapter 44: The Color of Trust   We jump back to Mat right after he sends Vanin back to the camp. They end up having to stay in the stables since all the Aes Sedai fill the inns. Love how Mat has to put up his banner

Chapter 38: A Sudden Chill   Now after all that with Egwene that just happened, it made things get a lot more interesting for Mat’s arrival in Salidar. We start back up with him as he’s closing in on the town. Vanin returns and says two of the scouts were captured by Warders, and that there are close to 300 Aes Sedai in Salidar. I didn’t realize there were that many, even without POV’s from the girls and such who were already there. Also, we find out that Bryne’s army has gotten huge, and is t

Chapter 32: Summoned in Haste   Thus begins an extremely intriguing and surprising story line with Egwene. We start off with Egwene as she is in the camps. Some Shaido Wise Ones show up, and because of their odd rule, they are welcomed among the tents. Egwene eventually tries to visit the Sea Folk ship, but is dumped in the river once they can sense her channeling ability. She quickly turns to her girlish pranks and lifts the sea folk out of the boat and dumps them into the water as well. Coul

Chapter 27: Gifts   Egwene and Gawyn continue their romance in the city, and conveniently keep meeting at the inn; just saying.. Anyway Egwene isn’t able to get much from Gawyn about the Aes Sedai he’s with, aside from them apparently looking for her (or rather the person who channeled at their house). Afterwards she returns to the camp and finds out the Wise Ones are in an all-day meeting, giving all the apprentices the day off. We find out Rand is back in Cairhien, and Egwene sets off to se

Chapter 22: Heading South   Back to Mat as he’s with the Band on their way to the gathering. They are about halfway to Tear, and moving at a pretty good pace. The rumors of Logain are starting to reach them, and Mat is contemplating all that when one of his scouts return saying there is something Mat needs to see. It turns out to be the remains of a Tinker camp, with a sign that says “Tell the Dragon Reborn”. At first I thought the shaido, but I’m up to chapter 32 now and two other names come

Chapter 16: Tellings of the Wheel   Rand is still in Caemlyn, and is about to meet with 4 of the lords and ladies of Caemlyn that had been exiled by Morgase. I’m assuming these are the good ones that we need to get back on our good side? They clearly don’t like the idea of Rand being there, and what he has done to the place. I feel they should at least be a little grateful, I can’t imagine it being worse than before with Rahvin. Though, there is that whole Dragon Reborn thing. Rand continues t

Chapter 10: A Saying in the Borderlands   Rand is back in Caemlyn, and is thinking of having all the waygates go under guard. Though, I’m not sure how good this will do if hundreds of Trollocs start pouring out of them. A small guard will only be able to do so much. Anyway Rand now also knows the trick to not feeling the heat or cold. Pretty nifty and useful for as hot as it’s been lately, but how exactly did Taim learn all these things? We also hear word that there are two Aes Sedai staying a

Chapter 4: A Sense of Humor   Alright, we start back up with Rand and the Maidens leaving the farm, and traveling to this place near the border of Tear and Illian. A huge army is gathering there full of Tariens, Aiel, and Cairhienin. All signs are pointing towards taking Illian, and risking nothing in gathering an army large enough to take it over twice. Unfortunately the Tairens and Cairhienin still despise the Aiel and are unwilling to really work with them. The High Lords have been meeting

And we’re off again!     Prologue: The First Message   Felt like this prologue went on forever. Just kept going and going, but a lot of good stuff happens. We start off with Demandred as he arrives at Shayol Ghul, and we get our first look at this place. It really doesn’t seem like a place I’d want to go anywhere near. He’s led by this Myrddraal down into the Pit of Doom where for the sake of discussion, the bore is? I know it’s not “exactly” where the bore was at, but simply the place wh

Chapter 53: Fading Words   The aftermath of the fight culminating in Moiraine and Lanfear’s death was pretty intense and emotional. Was hoping that although the door was burnt, there was still a way to go and get her. Maybe there is, or maybe Lanfear killed her as they got through. She is a tad bit more powerful after all, why didn’t Moiraine just balefire? If she had the time to get close enough to tackle her.. I don’t know. Regardless, Lan makes it pretty clear that the bond was broken, and

Shortish blog, but I simply don't have the energy to do any more tonight.     Chapter 47: The Price of a Ship   So now some of your comments from two blogs ago make a little more sense. Nynaeve and company are still waiting at the circus for news of the boat. Better come quick before her and Elayne kill each other. Apparently Egwene is able to talk to both in their dreams now, giving them the info on Rand’s recent victory in Cairhien. Pretty cool being able to do that, Egwene must be getti

Great stuff here     Chapter 41: The Craft of Kin Tovere   So we catch back up with Rand as they are closing in on the city of Cairhien. The city still stands, but the Shaido have surrounded the place. Along the way Rand has gathered in a good number of Tairens and Cairhienins who came in with this Lord Weiramon. For the record this guy just acts and sounds like a fool, how he ever got to lead anyone is beyond me. He will probably get himself killed before long with all his talk of chargin

Don't hate me too much     Chapter 33: A Question of Crimson   We start back up as Nynaeve and the circus group practice their performances. Nynaeve is the lucky one who gets to be the target for Thom to throw his knifes around. Now there’s one thing I would never do. I don’t care if Thom was even using channeling or something to guide his knives. We find out Elayne met with Egwene in TAR the previous night, and they caught up with news going on outside their little caravan. They don’t se

I’m a terrible person. Can’t believe I’ve gone so long without another blog, sorry! How about I just give you one big juicy one? So in my defense, I had written another blog, but I guess I hit the “save” button instead of “publish”. So I just added on to what I had written and reviewed it to make sure it was right.   I’m hoping to get another big blog update in tomorrow, so if you don’t see one by tomorrow night, feel free to harass me.     Chapter 16: An Unexpected Offer   Nynaeve wak

Chapter 8: Over the Border   Thus begins another part of the super-girls story as someone mentioned in a previous comment. Nynaeve, Elayne, Thom, and Juilin have left Tanchico and are traveling across the countryside disguised as Merchants. It sounds like they are trying to eventually get to Tar Valon, and looking at the Map in the beginning of the book, that’s one hell of a journey. Lord knows what kind of trouble these girls can get into between here and there. They manage to get away from a

Alrighty, I’ve gotten a little behind on these blogs. I’ll do my best to catch up; I’m about 18 chapters into this one. I don’t know the best way to describe it, but it’s kind of funny how it seems like we are starting a whole new series here. This one is focusing on Elayne and Nynaeve and the start of some grand new adventure for them. I’ve gotten only a chapter or two on really anyone beside them so far. Anyway onto the story.     Prologue: The First Sparks Fall   I like these prologues

Chapter 56 Goldeneyes   Finally, game day back in Emond’s Field! Perrin finishes up his death letter to Faile. The scouts return saying thousands of Trollocs are coming from the North and south. As Perrin rides out we see the woman gathered and surrounding all the children. The Tinkers have also gathered here and are carrying the small children. It sounds like they are to try and run for safety if the town is overrun. All the final preparations are being made, and everyone gets into position.

Coming down the home stretch now, great stuff going on..   Chapter 51 Revelations in Tanchico   Finally the gig is up on Egeanin. Elayne and Nynaeve have become friends with her, but it all goes south when Bayle Domon enters. He remembers her, and the girls quickly bind up Egeanin as she and Domon attack each other. All the revelations come out on why each party is there, but more importantly Domon, followed closely by Thom and Juilin, announce they have discovered all the Black sisters are
