DRAGONMOUNT

A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Right, according to sources, the WoT TV Series might finally be happening. That means only one thing: sh.t just got real in the "who I want as actor to play [x] character" debate!

To that end, I will be starting a series of threads in which you can post your pictures of actors whom you think will be best able to portray the characters.

There will be rules!

1) Post a picture of your choice, with their name.

2) Pick people who actually are actors (they don't need to be famous) or at a pinch models, who you think could act, and the right age right NOW.

3) Pick people who roughly resemble the description of the characters (I'll post what descriptions there are). Obviously you don't have to be pedantic, but it's got to be realistic. Aiel aren't generally short and dark. Seafolk are generally very dark skinned. Egwene is a teenager, so someone in their 30's or 40's isn't going to work.

4) No biting, kicking or scratching. Channeling and stabbing is allowed, though.

This post will be copied and pasted to each new thread I make, cos I'm lazy.

We will start with the order of appearance (roughly), so first up will be the people we get to know in The Eye of the World (Book 1).

I will make threads for groups of people (ie the Wonder Boys, the Wonder Girls, Emond's Fielders, etc), or we'll have a million threads.

Grouped together roughly for order of appearance, but also later interaction, we have Moiraine Damodred, Lan and Tom Merilin.

Description of Moiraine Damodred / Lady Moiraine of House Damodred / Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah:

She has large, dark eyes and dark hair hanging in ringlets. She is barely tall enough to come up to Rand's chest. She looks the same age as Nynaeve, but with large, dark eyes that belong to a much older woman.

In New Spring, the Blue Spymistress Cetalia Delarme describes Moiraine as a “pretty porcelain doll”. Later that day, Siuan muses that "She was not a pretty little porcelain doll; she was a beautiful little porcelain doll."

She's about 5'0 to 5'2 (152 - 157 cm)

http://www.encyclopaedia-wot.org/characters/m/moiraine.html:

She has large, dark eyes and dark hair hanging in ringlets. She is barely tall enough to come up to Rand's chest. A delicate gold chain fastened in her hair supports a small, sparkling blue stone in the middle of her forehead. (TEotW,Ch2) When she was young she was impetuous and hot-tempered. (NS,Ch2) She is about 5' or 5'2".

Moiraine has large, dark eyes and dark hair that hangs in ringlets. A delicate gold chain is usually fastened in her hair; on it is a small, sparkling blue stone that hangs in the middle of her forehead. She is very short, about 5 feet to 5 feet 2 inches. (TEotW, Ch. 2)

http://wot.wikia.com/wiki/Moiraine_Damodred:

When she arrives in Emond's Field she is described as having dark hair, hanging in ringlets. She looks the same age as Nynaeve, but with large, dark eyes that belong to a much older woman. This is the first mention of the ageless look. She is relatively short, standing at 5'2", and has a melodious voice.

Description of al'Lan Mandragoran / Lord of the Seven Towers, Lord of the Lakes, True Blade of Malkier, Defender of the Wall of First Fires, Bearer of the Sword of the Thousand Lakes,:

He has a face of stone and chilling blue eyes and is very tall with shoulder-length hair graying at the temples, held back by a leather headband called a hadori. Lan must be around 45 to 50 years old (born 953 NE, the books started at 998 NE and end at about 1001 NE). Pretty sure the effects of the Warder Bond would keep him looking a bit younger than his age, but I have no proof of that.

He's about 6'5 (195 cm) and muscular.

http://wot.wikia.com/wiki/Lan_Mandragoran:

Lan is often described as having a face of stone and chilling blue eyes. He is very tall with shoulder-length hair graying at the temples, held back by a leather headband called a hadori.

Despite his hard features and cold eyes, Lan feels deeply and loves passionately. Women are divided on his physical attractiveness, with some finding him irresistible and others, chilling.

http://www.encyclopaedia-wot.org/characters/l/lan.html:

He is very tall with shoulder length hair held by a leather headband or hadori (NS,Ch1). He is tall with long hair, gray at the temples, held back from his face by a narrow leather band. His face is made from stony planes and angles, weathered but unlined despite the gray in his hair. (TEotW,Ch2) He has blue eyes and is very tall. His long hair is grayer than it used to be. (ACoS,Ch12)

https://library.tarvalon.net/index.php?title=Lan_Mandragoran#Appearance:

Lan is described as having an angular face made from stony planes, weathered but unlined. His eyes are cold and blue. His shoulder-length hair is gray at the temples and held back by a thin braided leather cord, the hadori. He moves like a wolf.

Description of Thomdril Merrilin:

Thom is an older man, with white hair and mustaches. His eyes are blue, and he is tall despite a stoop, and later a limp.

His snowy hair and long mustaches make him appear older than he probably is, given his spryness.

He is a skilled gleeman, talented in juggling, knives and eating fire.

Hight: not given exactly - just tall.

He is fairly old, and has a gnarled face, shaggy white hair, and blue eyes. He is tall, with stooped shoulders.

His snowy hair and long mustaches make him appear older than he probably is, given his spryness. He is frequently portrayed as smoking a pipe.

http://www.encyclopaedia-wot.org/characters/t/thom.html:

He is tall but stooped with white hair and long, white mustaches. He has blue eyes.

https://library.tarvalon.net/index.php?title=Thom_Merrilin#Appearance:

Thom is an older man, with white hair and mustaches. His eyes are blue, and he is tall despite a stoop, and later a limp.

Descriptions of Thom are sometimes a bit conflicting, and don't always match with how spry he is (doing flips, knife-fighting, etc). It's assumed he's Andoran, but I don't recall this ever being mentioned directly? Could just be forgetting.

My absolute first choice for Moiraine might be controversially young, at only 22. There's just something about this girl that grabs me, though. She's a brilliant actress, imo, and I think she could be mesmerising enough as Moiraine.

Jodelle Micah Ferland[1] (born October 9, 1994[1]) is a Canadian actress. She is known for her portrayals of Mary Jensen in the 2004 ABC television series Kingdom Hospital, Sharon/Alessa in the 2006 horror film Silent Hill, Bree Tanner in the 2010 film The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and Five in the 2015 Syfy television series Dark Matter.

Born: October 9, 1994 (age 22 years), Nanaimo, Canada
Height: 5′ 2″

My 2nd choice for Moiraine, is again Ashley Greene (Alice from Twilight).

She's a bit too tall, but basically I just want her to play SOME major role in WoT ... lol

She could bring out the more mischievous side of Moiraine too, I think.

Ashley Michele Greene is an American actress and model. She is known for playing Alice Cullen in the film adaptations of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight novels. Wikipedia

I would have loved Adrian Paul for Lan, but he's just too short. Maybe he can do Tam or Garyth Bryne, instead - will have to think on that.

It leaves me with just 1 choice so far, and that's Joe Manganiello.

Joseph Michael "Joe" Manganiello is an American actor, director, producer, author and philanthropist. Wikipedia
He played Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and had various recurring roles in television on ER, How I Met Your Mother, and One Tree Hill, before landing his breakout role as werewolf Alcide Herveaux on the HBO television series True Blood. In 2011, he was voted "Favorite Pop-Culture Werewolf of All Time" by the readers of Entertainment Weekly, and one of Men's Health's "100 Fittest Men of All Time".[1]

Manganiello has appeared in films such as Magic Mike, What to Expect When You're Expecting, and Sabotage. In late 2013, he became a published author when his first book, Evolution, was released by Simon & Schuster's Gallery Books.[2] He is active with several charities, including Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, and he serves on the committee of The Art of Elysium.

Born: December 28, 1976 (age 40 years), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States

The choices for Thom have always been Sam Elliot and Jeff Bridges, but I think that by now they're simply too old.

I also think Thom presents us with the perfect opportunity to go a bit "left of field". We need someone who can do the fighting and acrobatics, but is also musically inclined.

Jim C is an interesting pic for Lan, as is Hugh Jackman. I'm sorry but I think Joe Manganiello simply wouldn't be taken seriously as Lan. My personal pick, and I think may be more realistic due to relatively low exposure(AKA, budget friendly) is Adrian Bower. He played Leofric on The Last Kingdom. I see Lan as a rougher type of man, the type who dwells in the grittier reality of walking in the Light. The type of guy capable of molding the Dragon Reborn early.

is a good look at some of his work on The Last Kingdom. That's my pick. Just imagine that man screaming "Tai'shar Shienar!". Only that man can make me believe the Dragon Reborn would be truly inspired to "face it on your feet". And if you're familiar with the show at all, you know he's capable of pulling off the recurring line such as "sheep herder" for Rand...as seen in this clip...please excuse the language should you choose to view it. Nothing crazy, but it's worth noting prior to viewing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD6kFxF0MvQ. Unfortunately, Leofric was killed in season 1....which means Mr. Bower is AVAILABLE!!! That is..if he hasn't accepted any other roles. Thoughts?
